Jon Katz, "How Boys become Men," p. 174.
Deborah Tannen, "Gender in the Classroom," p. 224.
Do you have a story about the "Code of Conduct, a set of ruthless, unspoken, and unyielding rules" (175)?
Do you strongly agree or disagree with anything these authors write about?

After reading both these stories, I have to say that I disagree with them in general. Although they both make good points, I think that saying someone behaves a certain way because of their gender is wrong. A person, be it a male or female, behaves they way they were raised to behave. If a person was raised to respect themselves and others around them they will regardless of their gender. As for the stereotype that females hang out in groups and gossip, some of the biggest gossips I know are men.
Having read both essays I would have to disagree with them. I don't think women are "oppressed" into not talking in class by the men (or boys) in the class. I just think the women in general take more time to think about what they are going to say and weigh out the options before they speak. I think that women do a majority of there thinking inside there heads as opposed to outloud in the classroom where I think the men basically work out their thoughts and feelings.
I am scratching for my crackers!!!
People who do their work on time should get extra credit!!
