Zen's diagnosis
The Autism Society of America states, "Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a ""spectrum disorder"" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism." this definition fits Zen almost perfectly. her ability to communicate with others was extremely limited through out the movie. Usually using only single words like mommy and money, when she spoke. on the other hand, the part of the diagnosis that does not fit is her ability to interact with others. I think she interacted very nicely with others. In the movie she interacted by beating the shit out of anyone who stood in her way of helping her mother. I believe her amazing fighting ability makes her some sort of savant. Knowing whatever Zen has or is, is unimportant. What is important is that she is special, not because of her disability, but because of her ability.

agree with u but i dont think anything that she did fit with autism 100% some stuff did but i dont really believe an autistic person would be able to do the things she did with the fighting and everything she spoke fairly well knew what was going on and kicked ass but that goes back to what ive said 100 times the movie was poorly put together
well i also agree with the diagnosis but don't forget what we watched was the dubbed version. If we watched in Thai i'm sure that the way Zen spoke would have been more inline with autism than the dubbed one. also Zens autism was a unique case of autism and gave her the ability to almost instantly "coppy cat" things that she watched and learned from. This case it was martial arts, and with the help of chris i think his name was fine tuned it so she knew what not to catch and what was bad. Like flies to her.
I completley agree. i think that stories like these are good heart felt stories and that they should be shown more and talked about more. my blog shares a story about an autistic kid playing basketball in rochester. check it out
