Socialistic Country

http://predictionsfortheus.wordpress.com/2008/11/09/us-ready-to-become-a-socialistic-country/ After reading this I thought about how many people get money from the government who are fully capable of working. There are several people on welfare, assisted living programs that can get out and get a job who can afford to live on their own but refuse to. Dont get me wrong I do believe that the goverment should care for those who need the help such as the disabled, elderly that are retired, people who truley cannot take care of themselves, but not for the ones who cheat the goverment. Since Obama getting elected he wants to lower this limit making it easier for people to get help from the goverment. The more people that are getting help from the goverment the more money that is coming out of the pockets of the people who are working for a living. Obama is trying to add change to this country that is going to be good, but trying to lower the limit for goverment help is a bad idea. Maybe I am looking at it all wrong. I will looking forward to see what everyone else has to say.

  1. I agree, I believe that many people rely on the help from the government and others which becomes their everyday life and people don’t know any different. I don’t think we should higher the standards for people who need help but educate them in ways to help themselves. Make programs only offered for so long which gives people a time frame to help themselves.

  2. This, I think, is the key to the whole thing: "educate them." that's the social program i think should be more free, more available for all, & would change the way people look at their prospects for improving their lives. People are so often just chucked out of school & are completely unprepared for life.

But it's a very complicated situation. Back before they had much social welfare in this country, families were devastated by poverty, through no fault of their own. the way whole industries just leave town, leave people who cannot easily move or find other work, because 30,000 other guys in the same town just got laid off, 25,000 of them are younger than him, & this person has four or five children younger than ten, two are sick with mumps, the wife is six months pregnant. If there are no options, what happens? there's a song about something like this: "The Ballad of Hollis Brown," by Bob Dylan:

    Ballad Of Hollis Brown

    Hollis Brown
He lived on the outside of town
    Hollis Brown
He lived on the outside of town
With his wife and five children
    And his cabin fallin' down

You looked for work and money
And you walked a rugged mile
You looked for work and money
And you walked a rugged mile
    Your children are so hungry
That they don't know how to smile

    Your baby's eyes look crazy
    They're a-tuggin' at your sleeve
    Your baby's eyes look crazy
    They're a-tuggin' at your sleeve
You walk the floor and wonder why
    With every breath you breathe

The rats have got your flour
Bad blood it got your mare
The rats have got your flour
Bad blood it got your mare
    If there's anyone that knows
    Is there anyone that cares?

You prayed to the Lord above
Oh please send you a friend
You prayed to the Lord above
Oh please send you a friend
    Your empty pockets tell yuh
That you ain't a-got no friend

    Your babies are crying louder
    It's pounding on your brain
    Your babies are crying louder
    It's pounding on your brain
Your wife's screams are stabbin' you
    Like the dirty drivin' rain

Your grass it is turning black
There's no water in your well
    Your grass is turning black
There's no water in your well
You spent your last lone dollar
    On seven shotgun shells

    Way out in the wilderness
    A cold coyote calls
    Way out in the wilderness
    A cold coyote calls
Your eyes fix on the shotgun
    That's hangin' on the wall

    Your brain is a-bleedin'
And your legs can't seem to stand
    Your brain is a-bleedin'
And your legs can't seem to stand
Your eyes fix on the shotgun
That you're holdin' in your hand

    There's seven breezes a-blowin'
    All around the cabin door
    There's seven breezes a-blowin'
    All around the cabin door
    Seven shots ring out
    Like the ocean's pounding roar

    There's seven people dead
    On a South Dakota farm
    There's seven people dead
    On a South Dakota farm
    Somewhere in the distance
    There's seven new people born

  3. I think people take welfare for granted. The government is kind enough to help out by giving them money to help pay for food and people just abuse the privlege. I used to work in a local dollar store and I was so amazed with how many people would come in there and just waste there money on junk. it is not fair to those who actually use it for a good purpose.

  4. I totally agree that people do misuse the system. I know people who used to send their kids into the store with a fodd stamp so they could buy a quarter item like a bag of chips, so they could use the change to buy cigarettes and beer...So many people are down and out and can use the extra help to get back on their feet..Once they can, I feel they should do their part, get a job and support their family, not sit around while everyone else works hard and they use the system as their main source of income and are perfectly capable of holding down a job but refuse too because they can! You are right on when you say to educate them! Help teach them ways they can improve their lives. There are people who don't abuse it and use it only as a last resort because they feel too proud to use it. It's the people who abuse it that give welfare a bad name....

  5. No I believe you are very right. I think also, that people are taking advantage of all this too much. It's definatly not fair to the people who work for a living. And yes, there are people that cannot work for a living, and that is ok but not thousands and thousands of people are incapable. Its out of pure laziness. It's like people hope to get fired these days, just to be able to collect unemployement. Again, not fair. Nothing good should be handed to anyone unless it is handed to the rest of us. Or is it why are we trying to get an education, when our society is deteriorating right in front of us. And again, its out of pure LAZINESS!! And for these people, that are having children...well i'm not even gonna get started with all that. But I'm very much for Obama all the way, but what is he thinking with this approach?!? Think again boy. It's time for a change!!!
