I agree with the Freedom theme. Maude was trying to help Harold be free. When Maude faked her death in front of Harold's uncle it made him think that harold was even more crazy than what his mother had lead him to believe. Harold's mother just thought that he was weird and she tried to change him. she tried to get girls for him and nothing worked, he just wanted some genuwine attention which Maude gave him.
