What Were They Thinking?

This article is about school shootings and why they happened and how they can be prevented. After reading the article, some of the questions on why these things happen are answered. One of the main reason behind all of the shooting is, mental disorder of the gunman, whose anger, social isolation or desire for attention bursts into violence. One of the most recent shooting was Northern Illinois University (NIU). It was said that, the gunman had a mental disorder and he stopped taking the medication. The gunman killed 5 people and himself. One of the main questions people have is, how can it be prevented? Stephens recommended that colleges and selective high schools evaluate students on their mental health as well as their academic and athletic talent. I think this would work because it would give teachers more knowledge of some of the students. As far as college schools goes, it is hard for them to prevent this from happening because unlike high schools, where the students can go in and the teacher can lock the doors and monitor the room better. The colleges should make sure there is a way to inform the students if there ever is a problem.
