In 1976, a bill was passed to legalize medical marijuana in Illinois. Unfortunately for the sacred brotherhood of potheads, the bill requires the governor at the time to sign off on it's usage which none of the four governors since that time have done. Recently though, efforts have been made to legalize it without the governor loop-hole, even getting the vote to a 6-4 decision in the Senate. The argument for the bill was the accounts of two older women with many illnesses who say that prescription drugs never worked for them and the only thing that ever made them feel any better was their pot laced brownies. The defense claims that it is unfair to hide behind sick people in this matter because it will only draw a sympathy vote and not a smart vote. The enthusiasts maintain that it about the patients and not about law enforcements ability to handle the situation. The main concern in legalizing the plant is that people will abuse the privilege and start selling it on the streets to people who don't medically require it. Though it looks as though this one may get tossed around the Senate for a while, at least the marijuana enthusiasts can rest assured that they are on the right track.
