T.V In Childrens Room

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/health/04well.html
Many times parents have alot going on in which they end up taking the easy way out with their childern. Alot of times the going to bed prcoess takes alot of effort that they just dont have time for. An easy way to put a child to bed is to turn the T.V on. In an case it is much easier, but with many studies showing it might not be very benefiting for the childern. Many cases showed that with childern watching T.V. in their own bedrooms were faced with many problems later in life. Most of the time it was health realted problems.
When I was growing up a couple of my friends had T.V's in their rooms and I enveyed them. Mean while I didnt understand why my parents would'nt let me. Now being at the age I am I see reasoning behind that situation. And understand why they would'nt let me. With the studies showing that over half american childern have T.V's in their own bedroom, what is happening to our society? What happend to the bed time story before bed? Its changed to a televisioin show rather then a story.
I believe the main cause of this is because parents dont know. They dont relieze that what their doing is going to effect their childern in later life. If a child is watchin television in their own room how can you montor what their watching? The anwser is you cant, and parents don't have any idea of what is really happening in the childs bedroom.

  1. I completely agree with you!! I started reading to both my children before they were even born (in utero). I got in the habit of sitting in a rocking chair everynight and reading to them. They are both intelligent kids and really enjoy reading. Nothing can replace a bedtime story for a child. It helps to set limitations as well, when the story is done, it's lights out and time to go to sleep.

  2. I agree as well, actually while attending BCC I was assigned a paper on televison through out society. It is not only a problem for children when they go to sleep. Television is actually being used as a reason for family gatherings. Not many people are an active family anymore going out and doing things as a family. Instead their time is spent surrounded around the tv during american idol or around dinner time.

  3. I completely agree with you also. T.V in children's room's are just babysitters. I have friends who let there children who watch T.V all day, then watch it to go to sleep at night. They can't go to sleep without it! Too much T.V before bed makes for a restless night for children. They have a hard time shutting down after they have been stimulated by T.V at bedtime. I am a believer that a good bedtime story before bed is the best way for kids to settle in for the night.

  4. I agree with you Stephanie. TV is a bad habit that a lot of people cannot get out of. They believe it is the only form of entertainment anymore but it is not. Families need to spend more time with each other and less time watching tv. Watching tv is making people lazy and have more health problems because they no longer get any exercise. So people need to watch less tv and do other things.

  5. I agree as well. I feel that parents are busy trying to balence work, afterschool activities, ect.. If the children put on something they want to watch they tend to be "entertained" so the parents can have quiet time. Our family values are changing. Parents should read, play games, or have old fashioned family conversation.
