Hold'em Poker

I started playing hold'em poker about two years ago. I find it to be a interesting game with, deceit, skill, luck and interesting characters. I watch poker on T.V. atleast twice a week and play online regularly. There are probably millions of people who play poker, which has become a new phenomenon in the last couple of years. They televise events with big money at stake( millions) so people are seeing that big money can be won. The way they televise is what makes watching on T.V. so interesting. The television audience gets to see what cards the players are holding and know who has the best hand. So they have created drama for a game that used to be a secret wtih who had what cards and who was the big bluffer. With a little practice I would like to someday play in a big tournament. Practice makes perfect so they say, so that is what I am doing, practicing until I feel my game is good enough. Last year Congress passed a law that prohibits U.S. citizens from playing on-line for real money. So for me to play for real money I either have to play at someone's house or go to a casino to play for real money.

Show

My favorite tv show would be House. Its about a doctor that is different from most. i lkie the show becasue its exicting and keeps me on my toes. It shows how all doctors are not the same and that some do have problems too. House is a doctor that was in a motorcycle crash and ends up with a bad leg. So sometimes it seems that the reason he is helping other is to find out maybe what they have wrong might help him to get better. He always finds out something in weird ways and it keeps you wanting to watch it more and more.

Movie

One of my favorite movies is "Gridiron gang", i like the movie because it shows how much potential young troubled kids have and it is based on a true story. I would like to do something that involved working with troubled kids so i kind of related to the movie. it is kind of a feel good story but still a very good movie.

My Favorite Book

My favorite book is VELOCITY by Dean Koontz. I choose this because it is a fast paced thriller, which keeps the reader engaged. Koontz draws the reader into his tale with descriptive imagery, and symbolism, with a twist of moral dilemma. Once the story begins, you do not want to put the book down; the only good stopping place is the end. Koontz also starts his novels with famous quotes and uses extensive vocabulary - he does not "dumb" down but rather brings the reader up to his level. I read the book over winter break, much to my family's' chagrin, they had to fend for themselves until I finished.

Favorite TV show

I guess I would have to say that my favorite TV show is Charmed on TNT. I enjoy this show because it takes you out of this reality in to the characters reality where there are Demons fairys, warlocks, and Witchcraft. I have always found the craft interesting and have studied different aspects of it. I also think that there is an underlying message to the show meaning that there is good and evil in the world and there people out there that are willing to fight for good, and who will do what ever it takes to make the world a better place.

My Favorite Book

My favorite book is The Winner by David Baldacci. I like this book so much because it is a book that you can't put down. It keeps you very interested and on your toes. It is about a woman, who is presented with the chance to win the lottery (in a lottery scam) but for unknown consequences however she decides to take the deal. After this, she is faced with having to protect her life, however she is extremely rich and has to leave the country for a period of time so that the government can't track her and the scam. I was just very drawn to this book and it is one of the only books that I couldn't put down while I was reading it.

Favorite Movie

My favorite movie is The Boondock Saints. It's a great movie that takes place in Boston. It has a lot of humor in it. Its a lesser known film made on a fairly low budget. It is like a mix between The Godfather, Scar Face and Resevoir Dogs. If you haven't seen it check it out.

The Giver

My Fvaorite Book of all time would have to be "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. The book captures the idea of an utopian society. A life without any pain or suffering. That is unless you are the reciever of memories. The reciever of memories possess all the different kinds of memories. Mermories, that the utopian society will never have the chance recall. The reciever of memories keeps the memories until he is old and must pass them on to someone else. One boy has been selected to recieve theses memories, and the process of him doing so is captivating. The idea of a perfect place to live is wonderful; and how creatively it was arranged, was amzing. It seemed like the author had thought of every detail. The novel captivated me to the point that I could visualize the events in my head. I think what I liked the most about the story was the ending. The ending left the reader with so many questions that allows ones imagination to run wild. "The Giver" is a perfect novel, you cant put it down, and you could never forget it.

My Favorite Movies is Sweet Home Alabama

My favorite movie is Sweet Home Alabama because it is a real funny/romatic movie. It stars Reese Witherspoon. It is about her trying to get a divorce fro.m her high school boyfriend and he refuses to divorce her, mean while she gets enagaged by another man who she thinks she is in love with. When she goes home to Alabama she relives her old life that she left behind. When it is time for her to get remarried she happens to forget to sign the divorce papers. She ends up with her first husband. It's not an everday fairtail but I just love the story line. She doesn't realize how much she left behind.
This movie is just a movie I love to watch over and over. It puts me in a good mood. It's a movie that I never get tried of.

Kweli-ty music

My favorite artist is Talib Kweli Greene. That says a lot about both of us. As someone who loves hip-hop, I’ll be the first person to say that I hate a good 70% of hip-hop music. And that saddens me. In a world where most people only care about money and women, Kweli has managed to get around the average stereotypes that plague the industry. To me, it’s all about lyrical content, opposed to a beat that people can dance to. Hip-Hop originated as a genre of music that just said “I’m here.” Then it told people their story. This got most artists out of the poverty stricken lifestyle that they had come from. However, Kweli doesn’t just try to raise himself out of the slums, he tries his best to reach a hand out to others, creating change.

"People with knowledge are more dangerous than than people with guns
They make the guns easy to get and try to keep people dumb
Target the gangs and graffiti with the Prop 21
I already know the deal but what do I tell my son?"
~Talib Kweli

My Favorite TV Show

My favorite TV show is "Deal Or No Deal". I love that show because it has to do with gambling and I love to gamble! The show interest me because everyone gets excited and it gets really intense! I also love it when the people get real excited when they think they are going to win big and they end up getting a low amount in their case. It's funny when people have a huge amount in their case and they end up selling it and winning a lower amount! It's a great show because it keeps you on the edge of your seat and you never know what is going to happen next!

Empathy is for old ladies. I say we make fun of 'em.

I'm not a big fan of tv, but I make time for "House" because it always surprises me. Last week, Dr. House pulled a 25-foot tapeworm out of a teenage girl's small intestine while she watched. What other show offers that kind of originality? And it's not just the cornucopia of exposed human organs that makes "House" great. Hugh Laurie plays Dr. Gregory House, the most satirical character ever written, and he pulls it off without a hitch. He's insensitive, but witty; marvelously politcally incorrect, yet impossibly likeable. Most of his blunt insults are offset by the fact that as he's offending his patients, he and his team of brilliant young doctors are working furiously to save their lives. House spent a week in a wheelchair to steal back his parking spot from this woman.
You may be thinking "How twisted does a person have to be to think that's funny?" I don't know the answer to that. I consider myself moderately disturbed. Watch Dr. House as he makes fun of his patients and colleagues next Tuesday and find out how disturbed you are.

My Fave Movie - Cheaper By The Dozen (original)

I have to say that my favorite movie is the original "Cheaper By the Dozen". It is the movie of Frank and Lillian Gilbreth who were know in their day as "time managers". The movie gives us a bit of history of how time management was studied by a couple. This couple had 12 children, (one who died at a young age). They used their children with many of their time experiments. Frank was one of the first to sit in on surgical operations and come up with the idea of saving time by having a nurse hand the surgeon the instruments as they were needed. His wife worked beside him and helped him with his experiments. When Frank died at a young age of a heart attack, Lillian went on his place. The movie is a comedy too, showing the antics of the family as a whole. The follow up movie "Belles On Their Toes" goes into the life of the Gilbreth family without Frank. Both movies come about from the books of the same names, written by two of the Gilbreth children.

My Fave

What is your favorite... movie, book, website, or tv show?
or band, singer, play, breed of dog, or bird?

I think my favorite bird must be the chickadee
--black-capped chickadee, to be specific. They
hang around all winter long, singing,
"chick-a-dee-dee-dee," and you can talk to them,
& they listen! Chickadees are known to eat out
of people's hands, & they fly close to get a good
look at you. They're brave, the one bird that doesn't
always fly away frantically when I step out on the
porch, where the birdfeeder is. I've seen them eating
dried berries in the woods, swinging upside-down
on branches to get at them, swinging & flying &
singing their way through the brutally cold days,
& the first to greet the spring with calls, one whistle
followed by two of a note a couple steps below.
If you whistle the same tones, you can on a
conversation for probably longer than you want to.
But if the response to this mating call is a half-step
below, like a sad minor to a joyous major, it means
the other chickadee is spoken for (that's what my friend,
Jenn Jump, told me). They're the tiniest, the happiest,
the bravest, & the toughest birds around.
& they're always around!
